FOREWORD
This is the first special newsletter of two for those who
had bought or downloaded a trial version of USB AutoRun Creator from
SamLogic Software. The newsletters will contain articles
and practical tips about the product.
First in this newsletter, you can read more about
USB AutoRun Creator - the
tool that makes it possible to use the Windows AutoRun function
with USB flash drives again. We have also included 4 tips
that show how to use the tool.

USB AUTORUN CREATOR
 A
few years ago we got many questions about why the AutoRun function
does not work with USB flash drives anymore, and if it's
possible to make it work again?
After a lot of testing we found a method that will give
back AutoRun capabilities to USB flash drives. It was also
important to not reduce the security level because security
was the reason why Microsoft removed the AutoRun function.
Our method will enable AutoRun again for USB flash drives
without compromising the security.
How does it work?
Many people do not want AutoRun to work for every USB stick
that they plug into the computer's USB port. But what about
if the AutoRun only works for some specific USB sticks from
sources you trust, and a system checks that no (automatically)
executed program can be changed after creation? Many people
want to have it in this way, and this is how our product
USB AutoRun Creator works.
The end-user must install a special program in the computer
the first time he/she receives the USB stick. But thereafter,
full AutoRun will be supported for this USB stick and all
other USB sticks that are send to him/her from the same
source (from a specific company).
Before USB AutoRun Creator executes a program automatically,
it checks that the program file has not been changed or
replaced, using various methods. If any changes are detected,
the program will not start. This solution makes it impossible
for viruses or malware to hijack a program and infect a
computer this way. But AutoRun will still be 100% supported
for allowed programs.
When should I use USB AutoRun Creator?
Using USB AutoRun Creator can be a good
idea if it is likely that same USB
stick will be plugged into a USB port many times, or if
you plan to distribute more than one USB stick to a user.
As mentioned above, the first time the USB stick is inserted
into a USB port, a program must be installed, so if the
user is only expected to use the USB stick once, there is
no need for the USB AutoRun Creator. But, in situations
where the same USB stick will be used repeatedly, or the
user receives more than one USB stick from the same source,
USB AutoRun Creator will make
it much easier for the user to locate programs, documents,
videos etc. on the USB stick.
Examples of Uses
Some examples of uses for USB AutoRun Creator are distribution
of: corporate and product presentations, large media-rich
reports, vendor price lists, special customer information
(e.g. personal health records),
portable applications and software updates.
Use it standalone or together with
CD-Menu Creator
USB AutoRun Creator can be used standalone or
together with our menu designer tool
CD-Menu Creator. By installing USB AutoRun Creator on
a computer that already has CD-Menu Creator installed, you
will extend CD-Menu Creator functionality, making it capable
of creating AutoRun menus for USB flash drives.
