{"id":7349,"date":"2022-09-28T14:05:19","date_gmt":"2022-09-28T14:05:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.samlogic.net\/blog\/?p=7349"},"modified":"2022-10-29T13:03:20","modified_gmt":"2022-10-29T13:03:20","slug":"how-to-use-multimailer-with-a-google-gmail-server","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.samlogic.net\/blog\/2022\/09\/how-to-use-multimailer-with-a-google-gmail-server\/","title":{"rendered":"How to use MultiMailer with a Google Gmail server"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you only send small amounts of e-mail, it is possible to use a Google Gmail server for your mailings when you use our e-mail delivery application <a href=\"https:\/\/www.samlogic.net\/multimailer\/multimailer.htm\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">MultiMailer<\/a>. However, some functions in MultiMailer are disabled because they require our built-in e-mail server to work, but using a Google Gmail server is in any case possible and may be suitable for small mailing lists. We will show below step-by-step how to do that:<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 20px;\">1. Activate two-step verification in your Google account<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nThe first thing you need to do is enable two-step verification in your Google account, if you haven&#8217;t already. It&#8217;s a relatively simple process, and below you&#8217;ll see what the steps are:<\/p>\n<p><span><span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6a2d67f479dc0\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"Show steps\"    >Show steps<\/span><div id=\"target-id6a2d67f479dc0\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\n<strong>1.<\/strong> Open your Google account. For example, by opening the website <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">google.com<\/a> and then clicking on the round symbol at the top right. If you are not logged in, you must log in first. After you&#8217;ve logged in, you can click on the round symbol on the top right.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> A menu will now appear. Click there on the <strong>Manage your Google Account<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> A web page with options should now appear. There, click on the <strong>Security<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> At the <strong>Signing in to Google<\/strong> section, click on the <strong>2-Step Verification<\/strong> option.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> Click the <strong>Get Started<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong> Enter the password for your Google account.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.<\/strong> Enter a phone number to which Google will send a verification code (via SMS).<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.<\/strong> Click <strong>Next<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9.<\/strong> A verification code will now be sent via SMS to your phone. Enter it at <strong>Enter the code<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>10.<\/strong> Click <strong>Next<\/strong>. Then click <strong>Turn On<\/strong> to activate the function.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p>You have now activated two-step verification for your Google account (e.g. your Gmail account). In the next section, we will show you how to retrieve a username and password for MultiMailer.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 20px;\">2. Get username and password from Google<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nNow you will get your username and a password for MultiMailer. The password is not the same one you use when you sign in to your Google account, but a different password that is created by Google at request. We will show below how to retrieve this password. The username for MultiMailer is the same as when you log in to your Google account.<\/p>\n<p><span><span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6a2d67f479dda\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"Show steps\"    >Show steps<\/span><div id=\"target-id6a2d67f479dda\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\n<strong>1.<\/strong> If you have the <strong><-- 2-Step Verification<\/strong> option visible on the web page, click on it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> The <strong>Security<\/strong> page should now appear. If not, open it.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Click on <strong>App passwords<\/strong> at <strong>Signing in to Google<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>4.<\/strong> Enter your Google Account password again.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> Click <strong>Select app<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong> Select <strong>Other (custom name)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.<\/strong> Enter <strong>MultiMailer<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.samlogic.com\/blogg\/bilder\/2022\/google-app-password--name-of-app.png\" width=\"683\" height=\"252\" alt=\"Name of app (in Google)\"><br \/>\n<strong>8.<\/strong> Click the <strong>Generate<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9.<\/strong> A password will now appear in a window. Copy it off. Paste it into Notepad.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.samlogic.com\/blogg\/bilder\/2022\/google-app-password--password.png\" width=\"680\" height=\"496\" alt=\"Password for app (in Google)\"><br \/>\n<strong>10.<\/strong> Click on <strong>Done<\/strong> when you have done it.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #000000; font-size: 20px;\">3. Specify username and password in MultiMailer<\/span><\/strong><br \/>\nNow you must enter the correct username and password in MultiMailer. To do that, do the following:<\/p>\n<p><span><span class=\"collapseomatic \" id=\"id6a2d67f479de8\"  tabindex=\"0\" title=\"Show steps\"    >Show steps<\/span><div id=\"target-id6a2d67f479de8\" class=\"collapseomatic_content \">\n<strong>1.<\/strong> Start MultiMailer if you haven&#8217;t already.<\/p>\n<p><strong>2.<\/strong> Select the menu item <strong>Options &#8211; E-mail Account Settings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>3.<\/strong> Check the option <strong>Use e-mail server from my ISP or company<\/strong>.<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.samlogic.com\/blogg\/bilder\/2022\/multimailer-email-server--english.png\" width=\"588\" height=\"379\" alt=\"Choose E-mail Server\"><br \/>\n<strong>4.<\/strong> Click the <strong>Settings<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><strong>5.<\/strong> The <strong>Email Account Settings<\/strong> dialog box will now appear.<\/p>\n<p><strong>6.<\/strong> In the dialog box, click on the <strong>Server List<\/strong> button.<\/p>\n<p><strong>7.<\/strong> Select the option <strong>Google: smtp.gmail.com (port 587)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>8.<\/strong> At <strong>Username<\/strong>, enter the username\/email address for your Google account.<\/p>\n<p><strong>9.<\/strong> At <strong>Password<\/strong>, paste the password you received in the previous section (see point 9).<br \/>\n<img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.samlogic.com\/blogg\/bilder\/2022\/multimailer-email-account-settings--english.png\" width=\"504\" height=\"677\" alt=\"E-Mail Account Settings\" ><br \/>\n<strong>10.<\/strong> Click <strong>OK<\/strong> to close the dialog box. Click <strong>OK<\/strong> again.<br \/>\n<\/div><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Now you can use MultiMailer to send emails via your Google Gmail account. Note that Google has a limit on how many emails you can send per day.
